JBL Professional Debuts JBL Venue Synthesis Acoustic Simulation Software
Free Application Lets Users Rapidly Create 3D Venue Models and Design Complete JBL Sound Systems for any Environment
ISE 2024 (Stand #3F300) - BARCELONA — HARMAN Professional Solutions, the global leader in audio, video, lighting and control technologies, today introduced JBL Professional’s JBL Venue Synthesis acoustic simulation software. This free desktop application lets users design and simulate acoustic coverage and prepare complete JBL sound reinforcement systems for rigging or installation in any environment, at any scale, in both 2D and 3D.
Venue Synthesis introduces the ability to run three-dimensional acoustic predictions, simulate acoustic performance for complete systems, and validate equipment for safe, secure rigging. Users can create or import 3D venue models, interact with realistic 3D models of JBL Professional loudspeakers and accessories and predict coverage on any plane for a full system of JBL products.
The new application, which replaces JBL's Line Array Calculator, has been designed from the ground up to take advantage of an improved acoustical and mechanical engine and offers ultra-realistic 2D and 3D graphics, featuring accurate renderings of physical rigging components.
With Venue Synthesis, it's never been easier to take systems from design to deployment, from making time- and cost-saving planning decisions to running precise predictions to ensuring safe, secure rigging—all in 3D. Venue Synthesis is perfect for tour sound rental companies, venue owners, acoustic consultants and live sound systems engineers who plan and design acoustic systems of any scale.
"The release of Venue Synthesis truly rounds out the toolset in our performance audio portfolio,” says George Georgallis, Director of Product Management, Performance Audio at HARMAN Professional Solutions. “3D prediction has been our most requested product for years; adding this functionality extends the value and performance of our professional PA systems.”
“Whether you're designing sound systems for small venues or large stadiums, Venue Synthesis makes it easy to plan and simulate acoustic coverage with confidence,” adds Santiago Ortiz, Principal Acoustic Engineer at HARMAN Professional Solutions. “We’ve carefully modeled all the components of the signal chain, from the input signal to the amplifier output voltage, in order to model accurate sound pressure levels that relate to reality. We have also made complex venue drawing and complex sound system configuration incredibly simple and fun to use. We think it’s a game changer for the live sound industry, and we can't wait to see all of the ways this powerful, free tool helps our customers create unforgettable experiences."
- Venue Mode: Fast, Simple Modeling Tools
Venue Mode makes it easy to quickly generate venue models in 2D or 3D using industry-standard geometry formats or build venues from scratch. Import and trace 2D schematics using common file formats to quickly model venues at scale, and create common architectural and audience areas such as balconies using the Special Object Creator.
- Mechanics Mode: Ensure Safety and Reliability
Mechanics Mode lets users validate and refine mechanical settings—included suspended arrays—to confirm system feasibility, safety and reliability, using 2D and 3D configuration views. An Array Statistics tool confirms adherence to regulatory requirements, and a real-time warning notification system alerts users to safety and reliability issues across the system.
- Acoustics Mode: Design Down to the Smallest Detail
Use Acoustics Mode to build and refine JBL Professional loudspeaker systems, including suspended and ground-stacked line arrays, distributed subwoofers and point-source systems. Configure equipment quantities and parameters including system size, position, angles, DSP and amplifier settings. Users can visualise fast-rendering preliminary "Quick SPL" coverage or fully map SPL to a venue for ultra-precise coverage visualisation with 1/12-octave frequency resolution—far finer than the industry standard of 1/3 octave—and high-resolution balloon data for high-frequency channels measured to 2 degrees. A 3D Full System Mapping feature precisely maps acoustic coverage on any audience plane, and can optimise off-axis response, complement off-axis response with point-source speakers and correct for acoustic shadows such as church pillars and under-balcony areas. Use the System Groups feature to organise and link loudspeakers and arrays according to acoustic properties, and 2D System View to visualise coverage, impact points and loudspeaker angles. Delay Optimizer optimises loudspeaker delays for the entire venue. A System Group File Export feature is fully integrated with the JBL Performance Manager application and the newly updated JBL ArrayLink mobile app, which uses a QR code system to deliver rigging information to field technicians.
3D Venue Models
Create venues from scratch using the built-in tools or import 3D models using common geometry file formats such as SketchUp, DXF, GCF, EASE, and CATT-Acoustics. Use the included tools to modify geometry and assign audience areas. Use Tags to organise geometry in logical groups.
Smart Drawing Tools
Import and scale images to quickly create models from basic 2D drawings. Use the Pen Tool to trace over images and use the Special Object Creator tool to create common architectural features, such as balconies and revolutions.
Direct SPL Mapping
Map Direct SPL using 1/12th octave high-resolution loudspeaker data and a variety of noise signals, including Pink-Noise, Pink-Noise IEC, Male/Female Speech, and Sine.
Array Grouping Tools
Sophisticated array and grouping tools allow users to create large multi-point arrays quickly. Use features such as symmetry and mirroring to accelerate design. Optimise large, distributed subwoofer arrays with the built-in Electronic Delay Steering calculator.
Delay Spread
Delay spread mode maps time offset variations across the venue. Use the built-in Delay Optimizer to generate delay values automatically to minimise time offset for delay towers and fills.
Headroom Analysis
Headroom Analysis tool ensures the system output requirements can be met. Use a variety of test signals to understand headroom impact from spectral content. Study headroom across system groups to ensure uniform limiting across the system.
Mechanical Validation
Use Mechanics Mode to validate and refine mechanical configurations. Use the Array Statistics tool to confirm safety factors. Quickly generate rigging manuals for crews or export data to ArrayLink.
System Integration
Open Venue Synthesis files in JBL control software such as Performance and Performance Manager. System configuration and DSP parameters automatically carry over, minimising setup time. Scan QR codes to transfer mechanical setup information to ArrayLink.
